What epoxy countertops are
Epoxy countertops are created by pouring a thick layer of resin over an existing countertop or a new substrate. The resin can be tinted, veined or mixed with metallic pigments to create the look of marble, granite or metal.
Updating older homes
Many older local homes still have original laminate or tile counters. Replacing them with stone can be expensive and messy. Epoxy can often be poured over the existing top, saving demolition and cost.
Looks you can choose
White with gray veining is the most popular. Black with gold, metallic blues and coppers and solid colors are all options. We bring samples and discuss lighting and cabinetry.
Basement bars and kitchenettes
Basement bars and kitchenettes are great candidates. Epoxy creates a seamless, eye-catching surface that resists spills.
Workbenches and shop counters
Garage workbenches and shop counters benefit from a tough, chemical-resistant epoxy top that cleans easily.
Durability and care
Epoxy is hard and stain-resistant but can scratch, and it is not heat-proof. Use cutting boards and trivets. Clean with mild soap and water.
The process
We protect the area, prepare and prime the substrate, pour the base, create the design and finish with a clear coat. Most projects take two to three days.
Cost factors
Price depends on square footage, edges, design complexity and the condition of the existing counter. Our written quotes break down each item.
Questions
Send photos and rough measurements, and we can tell you whether your counter is a good candidate.
Bathroom vanities
Older bathroom vanities with cultured marble or laminate tops can be refreshed with epoxy. The seamless surface resists water and is easy to wipe down. We mask the sink and fixtures carefully and pour around them for a clean, built-in look.
Laundry and mudrooms
Folding counters, mudroom benches and utility sinks benefit from a wipeable, water-resistant surface. Epoxy can be poured to fit odd shapes and corners.
Restaurants and cafes
Bar tops, coffee counters and tabletops in local restaurants and cafes get heavy use. Epoxy creates a durable, glossy surface that stands out and cleans quickly between customers.
What to avoid
Epoxy is not the right choice for every counter. It does not tolerate hot pans placed directly on it, and very damaged substrates may need replacing first. We tell you honestly whether epoxy is a good fit.
Matching your style
We bring samples, discuss lighting and cabinetry and help you choose a look that fits the room, whether that is bright marble, dramatic black and gold or a simple solid color.
How long they last
With normal care, an epoxy countertop can look good for many years. Light scratches can be buffed out, and the surface can be recoated if it ever needs a refresh. That makes it a practical option for busy kitchens and bars.
Preparing for install
Clear the counters, remove small appliances and plan to use another room for meals for a couple of days. We protect cabinets, floors and walls with plastic sheeting and tape, keep the work area tidy and remove all protection when the counters are cured. Ventilation is part of our process, and we explain any precautions for pets or small children before we start so your household can plan around the project.
Curious about a specific look? We can make a small sample board in your chosen colors so you can hold it against your cabinets and see it in your own light before we pour.
